For this project, I was tasked with creating an event poster that was purely typographic, including minimal shapes, colors and lines. I chose a split complementary color scheme, with two shades of purple - one more red tinted and the other blue - and a shade of yellow. I chose this yellow to draw attention to the calls to action on the page, such as the dates of the different talks and the word "NOW" to inspire the viewer to attend. As for the type, I chose a thicker, sans-serif font for easy user readability and experience. The black background was also chosen for prime readability.
As for my process, I began by researching different typographic posters. I knew that I wanted to morph the title of the event "Design Culture Now" into a shape, so I looked at different posters that utilized shape. Furthermore, I knew that I must incorporate four different artist descriptions so I looked at designs that utilized grids, rectangular shapes, and lots of text. I found that many utilized text blocks and different colors to create shadows/highlights to make shapes 3D. This generated the idea for the steps. I transferred the ideas to my sketchbook, and practiced perspective and shadowing, as well as spacing so that each of the white blocks fit equally on the page. I translated this onto Illustrator, and tailored it into my final design.
